Hey, how are you doing?
For those who live in the United States, you'd have to be living under a rock to not know what's going on in our country, and not to see the Black Lives Matter movement all around us. While I could go on as so many do, and so many have, I am not the voice you should be listening to right now, but I did want to show my absolute support. Black lives matter. If you're looking for ways to help, just do what everyone else who believes in this movement is doing: 1. Do your research It's something that I have been doing so much of lately. Most people have access to the internet, libraries do your research on anti-racist behaviors, how to speak to other people in your life and do a little bit of reflection on your own biases and what you've been taught throughout your life. Do the work to bring change within yourself and your community. 2. Donating is a great opportunity to help out. I understand this is not a possibility for everyone. We are also still in a global pandemic. A lot of people have lost their jobs and need that money to care for their families. 3. Sign petitions There are many petitions out there. You can go to this link to get started. They take less than a minute to sign and it'll show your support for the movement. 4. Protest if you can. These peaceful protests taking place throughout the country, really show the people who are able to make these changes that the people want these changes. Now I understand as the same thing as donations, I know a lot of people aren't able to do this due to various issues. To find community organization already in place, you can check for local community groups who are doing these protests. I've seen them in my community all over Instagram, Facebook, if you are a part of any mom groups or dad groups or specific friend groups with your community, a lot of them have these opportunities available if you just search for them. I did want to link a bunch of videos from the community, from BookTube, from authortube, an awesome authortuber Liselle Sambury has posted a bunch of links in her video. I will link her video and also the links that she posted because all of these videos are fantastic and are other ways for you to support black lives matter at the bottom of this post. These links are listed at the bottom of this post for easy access, but I also recommend in terms of doing your research, just jumping onto YouTube on the search bar or in Google and doing this research for yourself, seek out these voices that you should be listening to during this time and do the heavy lifting because there's a lot of work that we have to do. CHANNEL UPDATES I usually post videos twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays, but I'm going down to once a week. I'm just going to post on Mondays because I am drafting a book and I wanted to focus a lot of time on that and not posting twice a week just gives me a little more time to work on my work. I'm also experimenting with my upload time. I'm going to be posting around noon EST on Mondays and during that first half hour or so after I post, I will be available in the comments to chat with all of you. If you want to spend your lunch with me, that would be fantastic. Stay safe and I will see you soon.
