The Anatomy of Prose by Sacha Black | Writing Craft Book Review

5/27/2020

I was lucky enough to get an early review copy of Sacha Black's new nonfiction writing craft book, 'The Anatomy of Prose', and today I'm going to tell you my thoughts about the book.

And in case you missed it, I'm linking a chat that I had with Sacha that I just posted on Monday, so be sure to check that out after this review.

Sacha Black is a self-published author who has written a series of young adult fantasy books. She's also published two other nonfiction writing craft books, including '13 Steps to Evil', which is all about crafting villains and '10 Steps to Hero', which you guessed it is all about your hero or protagonist. She also has two podcasts, The Rebel Author podcast, and Next Level Authors.

Katlyn:
Hey everyone, I'm so excited to have Sacha Black here today to talk about her newest nonfiction writing craft book, 'The Anatomy of Prose', which releases later this month on May 29th. Thank you so much Sacha for coming and please introduce yourself and let us know about your books and how you got into publishing.

Sacha:
Okay. So I am Sacha Black. Thank you for introducing me. And I am a self-published indie published author. I publish both fantasy at the moment, young adult, but I am moving into adult fantasy. And I also publish nonfiction. Also writing craft books to help authors and writers develop all kinds of things. So I have villains ('13 Steps to Evil: How to Craft Superbad Villains') and heroes ('10 Steps to Hero: How to Craft a Kickass Protagonist) and now I've moved into 'The Anatomy of Prose'. I'm also a podcaster. I host The Rebel Author podcast. I do some freelance work for the Alliance of Independent Authors and I am developing a course as well. And I also developmental edit, although not as much as I used to do cause it's quite time consuming. Yeah, I think that probably summarizes an intro.

How I Organize My To-Do list | Author Vlog & Collaboration with Marisa Mohi

I have some tips for you about planning your writing, your life, and this is just a little walk through about my process on how I do my planning. And what's even more special this month is that I'm starting a new planning process that I absolutely love. Now, in terms of my planning background, I have always been a planner. I like having a outlook of my day and all of the things I need to do and that's grown especially important as I have gotten older, and I have a family, and I have an author business, and I have my writing, and all of the things.

So today is a collaboration video with fellow authortuber, Marisa Mohi. I have gotten to know her over the past few months and I think she is awesome and we both have similar ideas when it comes to planning. Productivity is big for us and I'm so excited to share this collab with her today.

What I've Learned After ONE YEAR on Youtube

5/18/2020

I can't believe I've been on YouTube for over a year now and I forgot my anniversary.

Now, most people would mark this as a date to remember, and I actually thought I was marking it as a day to remember. I thought I started last year in May, but actually it was April 29th, 2019, and I've given myself a little grace because of what is going on in the world right now. But I also want us to do a little reflection. So a little backstory on my channel other than a few trailers that I've done for my books. I officially started in April 2019 doing authortube videos. And also, it's funny enough that April 29th is the same day that I released my 13th book with HQ digital, and I found that kind of a momentous occasion that I just let pass. So I wanted to talk about why I started. I honestly have no idea. Well, maybe, I do. As I said, I started off with book trailer videos, and I love to edit videos.

WORKING ON MY STRENGTHS & RESEARCHING | Productive week in the life of an author #51 [CC]

5/10/2020

After discovering Becca Syme and her coaching of the CliftonStrengths for writers, I've been obsessed. This week I'm focusing on my Input strength and how I research my process for writing. Writing my novel has taken a back seat while I focus on my making my author newsletter better and self-publishing my series of young adult paranormal novels. My publisher reverted my rights to the books, and I've been researching the self-publishing process as well. There are a lot of exciting things happening, and I can't wait for next week.

BAREFOOT ON THE BEACH, the thirteenth novel by author Katlyn Duncan was published digitally on April 29, 2020.

Renee may be thrilled to be planning her sister's wedding, but after witnessing her mother's two failed marriages, she has always vowed that she is better off on her own.

But when Renee discovers that Luc Hardy has moved next door, her world is knocked off kilter. Luc was her whirlwind summer romance as a teen and, more importantly, her first love. Now he's back in West Cove, looking more handsome than ever.

There is no escaping the romance in the air this summer. With the wedding planning in full swing, Renee begins to believe that she might be able to put her childhood reservations about marriage aside.

Yet when her mother arrives, she stirs a torrent of emotions in Renee's heart. She's up to her old tricks again – boasting about her latest conquests – reaffirming Renee's lack of faith in love.

As Renee's happily-ever-after hangs in the balance, will Luc be able to convince her that true love can last forever?

BAREFOOT ON THE BEACH is available as an e-book for Kindle, Nook, Kobo, all Apple devices and at any vendor that sells e-books.
