Creating a Writing Routine as a Busy Mom

As an author mom, you know how difficult it can be to find the time and mental energy to write. Between work and family obligations, writing can often get pushed to the back burner. The good news is that with a little of planning, you can create a sustainable writing routine that will help you make progress on your projects while still taking care of your family. Let’s take a look at how to create a writing routine as a busy mom.

Set Aside Specific Time for Writing
As moms, our lives are constantly in motion, so it’s important to carve out specific blocks of time for writing each day. If you don’t set aside specific blocks of time for yourself, chances are your writing projects will get pushed aside when something else comes up. Set aside one hour first thing in the morning before anyone else wakes up or late at night after everyone has gone to bed; whatever works best for you.

Develop Good Habits
Creating good habits is key when it comes to establishing a consistent writing routine. Try setting goals for yourself each day—such as finishing one chapter or reaching 500 words—and reward yourself with small treats like going for a walk or having your favorite cup of coffee when you reach them. This will help motivate you and keep you focused on your goal of completing your project. Additionally, try setting small deadlines throughout the month so that you stay on track and can evaluate your progress regularly.

Prioritize Your Writing Projects
It’s easy to get overwhelmed when there are multiple projects vying for your attention at once. To avoid burnout, prioritize the most important projects and tackle those first so that they don’t slip through the cracks due to lack of time or focus. Once those projects have been completed, then move onto lower-priority tasks until all have been addressed. Doing this will help ensure that all necessary tasks are addressed without feeling too overburdened by any one task or project.

Creating a sustainable writing routine as a busy mom requires dedication and discipline but is certainly not impossible! By setting aside specific times each day for writing and developing good habits, prioritizing your projects accordingly, and rewarding yourself along the way, establishing an effective writing routine can be done with relative ease–so what are you waiting for? Commit today to sticking with this new writing routine for at least one month and start making progress towards achieving all of your literary goals!
